AI in Action: Intro to Prompt Engineering

Generative AI (GenAI) is changing how we work. Tools can be used to make any number of tasks easier. In this short online course you will be introduced to the Prompt and Verify Tool and other useful tools that can enhance your productivity while ensuring that your results are accurate. 

In 2 hours, participants will learn how to consider GenAI ethically, explore prompt creation skills and consider how to work with generated texts. 

  • Examine some of the different GenAI tools available online 
  • Develop your skills in creating prompts to generate texts that are designed for different types of tasks
  • Understand the relationship between the kind of task you are exploring and the methods of verification
  • Consider the ethical implications of GenAI use
  • Practice common uses of AI including brainstorming, market research and writing

Topics include:

  • What GenAI tools are available
  • Ethical considerations for GenAI
  • Prompting skills (Writing clear prompts, Setting goals, Role playing, Applying constraints, Framing the context, Iterating)
  • Verification approaches
  • Common pitfalls

He is currently a learning specialist for digital strategy and special projects at the Office of Open Learning at the University of Windsor in Ontario Canada.  His new book, ‘Learning in a time of Abundance: the community is the curriculum‘ is available @ Johns Hopkins University Press and other online retailers.

  • Learners will require access to a computer with high-speed internet access.
  • Class is delivered online through Microsoft Teams
  • A link will be provided through email prior to the first day of class so that you will have access to all course resources and streaming functions
